This 15km long circuit walk leads you around Muckross Lake via Torc Waterfall – a spectacular cascade.
Wild romantic parkland, pretty sandy inlets and stock of robust Yew Trees determine the nature trail. Great carpets of mosses; As well as Trees such as Arbutus, Holly and Oak can be admired during this walk.
We walk over Brickeen Bridge towards Dinis Island .
At Dinis Cottage, an enchanting former old hunting lodge, we will have our lunch-break. Behind the cottage you will see the meeting of the waters – a renowned beauty spot. Here the waters of The Upper Lake split around Dinis Island and enter Lough Leane.
Afterwards we keep going for approx. 1.5 km, then we cross the national road N71 and walk on an unsurfaced road above and parallel to N71 for 1.6 km to the powerful Torc Waterfall.
On our way back we will see Dundag Boathouse and Muckross House – a magnificent Victorian mansion, beautifully situated amidst the spectacular landscape of Killarney National Park . On request you can visit Muckross Abbey, an extensive late gothic monastery ruin founded in 1448.
